TP-Link is expanding its Tapo smart home ecosystem with a new range of 4K security cameras boasting AI-powered features, as well as a budget-friendly pan-and-tilt camera option. Central to the release is the Tapo HomeBase H500, a hub that provides facial recognition capabilities, expanded local storage, and Matter controller functionality.
The Tapo MagCam series takes center stage with its 4K 8MP resolution, Starlight color night vision, and optional solar power integration. The Tapo MagCam 4K Solar (C460) is available for $149.99, while the pan-tilt Tapo VistaCam 360 Solar (C660) is priced at $169.99. Both solar-powered models allow for continuous 24/7 battery recording, optimized with adjustable frame rates to conserve energy.
For those preferring a wired setup, the Tapo C560WS VistaCam is available at $99.99, featuring on-device facial recognition and 24/7 recording at a smooth 25 FPS.
All of the new Tapo cameras offer versatile recording options, including local microSD card storage, the Tapo Cloud, and the Tapo HomeBase. The cameras come with free, AI-driven smart alerts that can distinguish between pets, people, and vehicles, all processed directly on the device. Pan-tilt models also include auto-tracking functionality.
Tapo is also introducing the Tapo RoomCam360 (C260), a 4K-capable plug-in, indoor pan-tilt camera, priced at an affordable $59.99. This model features noise detection for baby cries, glass breaking, and sounds made by cats and dogs.
The Tapo HomeBase (H500) boasts 16GB of local storage for camera footage and supports both Ethernet and 2.4/5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity. Crucially, it also supports Matter-over-Wi-Fi devices, enabling it to function as a Matter controller. When linked to compatible cameras, the HomeBase enables local facial recognition for enhanced security.
