Oura is rolling out significant updates to its smart ring’s activity tracking capabilities, headlined by a new “Real Steps” algorithm designed to more accurately count steps and discern intentional movement from incidental hand motions. This refinement, functioning more like a traditional pedometer, may result in users observing a 20% decrease in reported step counts. In addition to improved step detection, Oura’s active calorie burn estimates will now incorporate exercise intensity through heart rate analysis. The platform is also expanding all-day tracking to encompass the 12 AM to 4 AM window. Users now have the flexibility to retroactively add or modify workouts from the previous seven days. Automatic Activity Detection is receiving new fitness metrics, including running splits derived from connected smartphone GPS data. Furthermore, heart rate information will be integrated when importing activity data from third-party health and fitness applications. Complementing these algorithmic enhancements, Oura has announced partnerships with CorePower Yoga, The Sculpt Society, Technogym, and Open. These integrations will enable the respective apps to personalize training and recovery recommendations based on the user’s Oura Readiness Score and other biometric data.
