Aurora is now commercially operating its autonomous Class 8 trucks on Texas public highways, marking a significant step forward in the deployment of driverless freight transportation. The company’s autonomous tractor-trailers are currently transporting goods between Dallas and Houston, having already logged over 1,200 miles without a human driver at the wheel.

Uber Freight and Hirschbach Motor Lines are among the first clients utilizing Aurora’s autonomous trucking service. Building on this initial launch, Aurora aims to extend its driverless operations to include routes connecting El Paso and Phoenix by the end of 2025.

While the autonomous trucking sector has faced challenges, Aurora believes its careful and safety-focused strategy will lead to successful large-scale deployment. Founded in 2017 by veterans from Uber, Tesla, and Waymo, Aurora has accumulated extensive real-world experience. The company reports completing over 10,000 customer loads and covering 3 million autonomous miles during four years of supervised pilot programs.
