Strava, a leading fitness-tracking platform, has implemented stricter API access rules to counter the growing issue of AI scraping. Developers seeking to build apps using Strava’s data will now be required to subscribe to a monthly plan priced at $11.99.
This decision is a response to the rising number of zero-code AI tools that enable rapid app creation, often without adequate oversight or compliance with API policies. Strava reports a 448% year-to-date increase in developer applications, largely attributed to these tools.
Strava also notes that API intermediaries have breached policy terms, and scraping attempts have compromised platform performance for all users. By limiting API access, Strava aims to prevent such misuse and provide a more seamless experience for its community.
