YouTube has announced the rollout of its AI-driven likeness detection program to all users over 18, enabling individuals to monitor the platform for potential deepfakes of themselves.
The feature uses a selfie-style scan of a person’s face to identify lookalikes on YouTube. If a match is found, the user is alerted and given the option to request content removal, providing an added layer of protection against misinformation and identity manipulation.
After initial testing with content creators, the feature was expanded to government officials, politicians, journalists, and other public figures. According to YouTube, the number of removal requests has been minimal so far, indicating the feature’s potential in maintaining the integrity of online content.
