Anthropic has announced a significant partnership with SpaceX, leveraging the company’s Colossus 1 data center to increase its compute capacity. This deal brings over 300 megawatts and more than 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs online, substantially enhancing Anthropic’s capabilities.
For developers, the most immediate impact is the doubling of Claude Code 5-hour rate limits for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, effective immediately. Additionally, peak hours limit reduction on Claude Code has been removed for Pro and Max plans, and API rate limits for Claude Opus models have been raised considerably.
This expansion builds upon Anthropic’s existing compute deals, including 5 GW with Amazon, 5 GW with Google/Broadcom, $30B of Azure capacity with Microsoft and NVIDIA, and $50B in infrastructure with Fluidstack. The company has also expressed interest in developing orbital AI compute with SpaceX, a pioneering endeavor in the field of artificial intelligence.
The increased rate limits and removal of peak hour throttling are expected to significantly improve the development experience for those building with Claude Code daily, alleviating a major bottleneck that has hindered productivity during extended coding sessions.
