Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on the company’s Q1 2026 earnings call that vehicles equipped with the Hardware 3 (HW3) computer will not receive unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities.
This decision affects approximately 4 million Tesla vehicles currently operating on the HW3 platform, including those whose owners paid for the FSD feature when purchasing their cars.
According to Musk, the HW3 platform lacks the necessary capabilities to support unsupervised FSD, a feature he has been promoting for years. As a result, affected owners will need to either upgrade their vehicle or its hardware to access this functionality.
