Dating app OkCupid has reached a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding claims that it misled users by sharing their photos with a third-party facial recognition company without obtaining their consent.
The FTC complaint alleged that OkCupid shared nearly three million user photos, along with demographic and location data, to Clarifai, a facial recognition company, in 2014, following a request from one of OkCupid’s founders.
As part of the agreement, OkCupid and its parent company, Match Group, have not admitted to any wrongdoing but have committed to refraining from making similar alleged misrepresentations in the future.
