Meta Prepares for Sweeping Job Cuts Amid AI and Data Center Expansion

Meta is reportedly planning a substantial reduction in its workforce to offset the costs of investing in artificial intelligence and data centers, marking a significant shift in the company’s priorities.

Insiders suggest that the potential layoffs could affect up to 20% of Meta’s staff, resulting in the elimination of around 15,800 positions and making it the largest series of job cuts at the company since its major restructuring between November 2022 and early 2023.

This move comes on the heels of Meta’s decision to realign its focus away from virtual reality and the Metaverse, instead concentrating on attracting top AI talent and developing its data center capabilities.
