The Illusion of AI Control: Why Regulation May Be Impossible

As governments and experts struggle to grasp the concept of controlling AI, a daunting reality emerges: it may be impossible to stop or regulate. The internet’s inherent nature allows AI to exist and be accessed from anywhere in the world, making it a formidable challenge to restrict.

Despite the best efforts of lawmakers, the complexity of AI and its ability to be accessed through countless channels, apps, and experiences means that it cannot be technically blocked. This raises important questions about the legitimacy of claims that AI can be made safe or controlled.

The implications are significant, as politicians may be causing harm by pretending to have control over AI. By pandering for votes under false pretenses, they create a false sense of security among the public, implying that laws can protect us from the potential risks of AI.

However, as the saying goes, you can’t pass a law requiring fire not to hurt us. Similarly, no law can truly control AI. It’s time to acknowledge this reality and have a more nuanced conversation about the role of AI in our lives.
