In a bid to curb the spread of misleading information, India has introduced new rules that require social media platforms to remove deepfakes from their sites at an unprecedented pace. As of February 20, these platforms will be expected to take down offending content in as little as two hours, significantly shrinking the previous takedown windows. This move is part of a broader effort to tighten deepfake oversight and ensure a safer online environment for users.
