The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is leveraging AI video generators from Google and Adobe to produce and edit content for public consumption, as revealed in a recently released document.
The document, made public on Wednesday, provides a comprehensive inventory of the commercial AI tools employed by DHS for various tasks, including document drafting, cybersecurity management, and editing images and videos.
Notably, the document discloses that DHS is using Google’s Veo 3 video generator and Adobe Firefly, with an estimated 100 to 1,000 licenses for these tools. Additionally, the agency utilizes Microsoft Copilot Chat for generating initial drafts of documents and summarizing lengthy reports, as well as Poolside software for coding tasks.
This development sheds light on how agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a component of DHS, might be creating the substantial amounts of content they have shared on social media platforms, particularly as immigration operations have expanded across US cities.
Some of the content, especially videos, appears to be AI-generated, but the specific AI models used by the agencies were previously unknown. This revelation marks the first concrete evidence of DHS using AI generators to create content for public consumption.
