SAP has unveiled its EU AI Cloud, a strategic initiative designed to consolidate its regional efforts and empower European organizations with enhanced control and choice over AI and cloud services. The move reinforces SAP’s commitment to data sovereignty, supporting businesses that leverage SAP’s existing data centers, other European cloud providers, or even on-premise infrastructure.

Key to this offering is a partnership with Cohere, which brings new AI tools to the table through Cohere North, accessible via the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). This collaboration is particularly relevant for industries with stringent data residency needs, enabling them to develop AI systems while retaining control over performance and data governance. The SAP BTP integrates models and applications from leading AI players like Cohere, Mistral AI, and OpenAI, alongside access to partner XaaS tools, all with adaptable deployment options.

The EU AI Cloud leverages the foundation of SAP Sovereign Cloud, giving customers the ability to customize their level of control across the technology stack. AI models are executed within European data centers, operating independently from US-based hyperscalers, and utilizing SAP’s cloud infrastructure and SAP BTP. Deployment choices include SAP Sovereign Cloud on SAP Cloud Infrastructure (EU) and SAP Sovereign Cloud On-Site. Select customers can also incorporate sovereignty features into their SAP SaaS deployments on global cloud providers.

In essence, SAP’s EU AI Cloud provides European businesses with increased agility in managing AI and cloud workloads, accompanied by scalable levels of data control to comply with strict privacy, data storage, and operational regulations.
